Fishing in Denare Beach, Motel in Denare Beach, Hunting Products in Denare Beach, Boat in Denare Beach

The Angell family is your complete outfitter and have been serving Fishermen and Hunters for over 60 years and we look forward to calling you our friends!

Angell’s is located at Denare Beach on scenic Amisk Lake (Beaver Lake as the locals call it).  The north two thirds of the Lake is in the Precambrian Shield, with all the beauty of the shield at your doorstep. The southern third is sedimentary rocks of the north shore of ancient Lake Aggassis. With some of the oldest rock formations in North America, it is a geologists dream laboratory. The rocks are covered with red, orange and red lichen, giving Amisk Lake great scenic character. You will see true hydroponics where trees grow out of cracks in the rocks. The lakes, trees, rocks and sand beaches make Amisk Lake a scenic, restful and relaxing place, adding to the enjoyment of fishing, hunting, canoeing and vacationing in the area.

We have guests that have been coming up since the beginning that we still see every year, this is not uncommon that our guests come back year after year for picturesque views, world class fishing and trophy black bear hunting.

Local History

Amisk Lake is on the historic fur trading routes of the Hudson Bay and North West Fur Trading Companies. Alexander Henry and the Frobisher brothers built a fur trading fort at the southwest end of the lake in 1776. You can visit the site by boat and see the canoe pits he dug, and the remains of the fire pits they used for heating and cooking in their cabins. On red limestone cliffs not far from this historic site are Indian pictographs. Alexander Henry wrote in his journal about Limestone Crevices where he hunted. These crevices are accessible, interesting and unique.  At the local museum you can see birch bark bitings, native crafts, pottery from the old Fort Henry site and other artifacts from the early exploration and settlement of the area.In the early 1900's Gold was discovered on the North end of Amisk Lake, prompting a gold rush of adventures into the area. Beaver City was built on the South end of Amisk Lake where the Sturgeon Weir River exits.    Beaver City was complete with stores, bunk houses, barns and RCMP detachment building.  With the advent of WWI these adventurers left the gold, Beaver City and departed for overseas leaving everything to  decay.  Interest in Gold mining is continued with the operation of the Monarch mine in the 1930's-1940's and continues on today with the Laural Lake Mine. Of Course fishing was always a predominant way of life for those who live on Amisk  Lake.

The Motel offers 2 bedroom kitchenette suites. There are currently 8 of these available. The Deluxe Suite was renovated in Spring of 2016 with a new washroom and many other improvements. Each year now will bring new renovations. In addition to the suites there are 2 separate cabins; a rustic but roomy Log Cabin and Norman's Cabin which is a 3 bed 1 bath home with laundry in the basement.
